Job summary

Albemarle County Service Authority seeks a Pump Technician to maintain and operate pumps, motors, and related equipment at pump stations, PRV vaults, and water tanks. Responsibilities include daily inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency response with flexible hours including nights and weekends.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or equivalent, 3–5 years of experience, and relevant licenses such as 16-hour asbestos, lockout/tagout and CPR/First Aid.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; 3–5 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of repair and maintenance methods for pumps, motors, and electronic instruments.
  • Basic electrical theory and safety requirements (lockout/tagout, confined space, ladder safety).
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License with Class A combination vehicle and tanker endorsement.
  • 16-Hour Asbestos Worker license; Confined Space Attendant training; CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • Detail-oriented, team player, willingness to pursue continued technical training in SCADA, PLCs.

Responsibilities

  • Daily pump station inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, generators, controls, and related equipment.
  • Installation of pumping controls, valves, wiring, alarms, and transfer switches.
  • Assist with testing and rebuilding backflow devices and emergency generators.
  • Maintain records and operate equipment safely; work in confined spaces as needed.

PUMP TECHNICIAN
Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Pump Technician performs skilled technical work in the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of pumps, motors, generators, controls, and related equipment at pump stations, PRV vaults, water tanks, and other facilities. Performs daily pump station checks, preventative maintenance, and responds to emergency situations as necessary, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other flexible hours.

Duties Include:
  • Daily pump station inspections
  • maintenance of buildings and grounds at pump stations and PRV vaults
  • preventative maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, generators, controls, and related equipment
  • installation of pumping controls, check valves, valves, wiring, alarms, pumps, motors, generators, transfer switches, and other equipment
  • assistance with testing and rebuilding backflow devices and emergency generators
  • repair of water tank electrodes, level transmitters, and related equipment
  • training to inspect, maintain, and calibrate electronic instruments, gas detection monitors, and control devices
  • maintenance of assigned vehicle repair and inspection records
  • working in confined spaces such as sewer wet wells and PRV vaults and above ground on ladders
  • assisting the Facilities Repair Crew when needed
  • calling in Miss Utility tickets

Employee must follow all ACSA and OSHA guidelines, maintain required PPE, and attend safety training.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, and three to five years of job-related experience
  • knowledge of repair and maintenance methods for mechanical devices, motors, and electronic instruments
  • knowledge of basic electrical theory and occupational safety requirements, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and ladder safety
  • valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License with Class A combination vehicle and tanker endorsement
  • 16-Hour Asbestos Worker license
  • Confined Space Attendant training with continuing education toward Confined Space Supervisor
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Must be detail-oriented, work well in teams, maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public, and be willing to pursue continued technical training in SCADA, PLCs, and related systems. Reliable attendance required. Must pass required drug/alcohol testing and wear the ACSA-issued uniform while performing duties
Hiring Range $55,382 - $66,458
