Job summary

Axis Energy Services in Odessa, TX seeks a Pump Operator to join the rig crew. You will operate and perform basic maintenance on high horsepower pumps and related equipment at shop, yard, and customer locations, supporting rig-up/rig-down and preventive maintenance.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a Class A CDL with Hazmat/Tanker endorsements is preferred. Expect a 12-hour shift, 70% travel, and field work outdoors in all weather under safety procedures.

Qualifications

Description
  • This job has preference to qualified local job seekers within 60 miles of our Axis Odessa, TX facility.

The Pump Operator works as part of the rig or unit crew and performs field tasks related to the operation, rig-up, rig-down, maintenance, and movement of pumping equipment, tools, and related assets at the shop, yard, and customer locations. This position is responsible for operating and performing basic maintenance on pumps and reverse units, including 440 hp skid-mounted pumps, 600 hp skid-mounted pumps, 1,000 hp trailer-mounted pumps, and 1,500 hp trailer-mounted pumps.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The duties listed below are representative of the essential functions of this position. The Company may modify duties or assign additional job-related responsibilities based on business and operational needs.

  • Inspect, operate, and perform basic maintenance on pumps, reverse units, and related pumping equipment.
  • Check and maintain fluid levels, replace filters, and support routine preventive maintenance activities.
  • Repack high-pressure pumps and service valves, seats, and testing equipment as needed.
  • Rig up and rig down pump iron, suction hoses, data cables, and related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Operate equipment associated with pumping processes and treatment procedures in accordance with company standards and customer requirements.
  • Operate valves safely, andcommunicate valve position changes clearly, and confirm when pressure has been properly bled off.
  • Walk lines and verify flow direction before, during, and after pumping operations.
  • Move, load, secure, and stage equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Operate forklifts and manlifts when trained, authorized, and required for the job.
  • Maintain tools in clean, safe working condition and ensure all tools and equipment are accounted for after each job.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including spill prevention, leak reporting, and general housekeeping.
  • Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, and required training.
  • Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and incidents to the appropriate company representative or manager.
  • Work cooperatively with crew members, supervisors, customers, and other personnel while maintaining a professional appearance and communication style.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or technical training preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of pump-down, reverse-unit, or related oilfield service experience preferred.
  • Class A CDL required; ability to obtain and maintain Hazmat and Tanker endorsements required or preferred based on operational needs.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance on engines, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Experience operating high-horsepower pumping equipment safely and professionally.
  • Experience with pumping equipment operating systems, such as Dragon, Rolligan, Lime, or similar systems, preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use a laptop and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel for communication, tickets, and data entry.
  • Reliable communication and transportation to report to assigned work locations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended shifts, travel, and time away from home as required by operational needs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, push, pull, lift, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate work-related information.
  • Ability to perform basic job-related calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires frequent physical activity in field and rig-site environments. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and perform team lifts up to 100 lbs while supporting pump operations, rig up/rig down, equipment handling, and high-pressure pump maintenance.

  • Lifting/Carrying: Frequently lift up to 50 lbs; team lift up to 100 lbs as needed for pump iron, hoses, tools, and related equipment.
  • Posture/Movement: Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 6-8 hours per shift; frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, and pulling are required.
  • Climbing/Heights: Climb ladders up to approximately 20 rungs/feet and access equipment, platforms, and work areas during field operations.
  • Grip/Tool Use: Must have sufficient grip strength, approximately 80-100 lbs per hand, to handle valves, hoses, tools, and high-pressure equipment safely.
  • Equipment Operation: Operates or works around high-pressure pumps, cement trucks, forklifts, manlifts, and pressure-control equipment.
  • Work Environment: Works primarily outdoors at rig sites in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, uneven walking surfaces, high-noise environments above 85 dBA, and potential H2S/hazardous-material exposure requiring appropriate PPE and respirator clearance.
  • Schedule/Travel: Typical 12-hour shifts on a 14/7 rotation schedule with approximately 70% travel, subject to business and operational needs.
