Job summary

The Town of Apex is hiring a Pump Maintenance Electronics Technician to manage SCADA-based control systems for the town's water and wastewater pumping stations. You will troubleshoot, repair, and optimize instrumentation and electrical/electronic systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least three years of related experience; NC Collections Grade 1 and NFPA 70E certifications or the ability to obtain them within specified

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required and three years of related experience.
  • Possession of NC Collections Grade 1 Certification or ability to obtain within twelve months of hire.
  • NFPA 70E Certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors SCADA daily for issues and trends and communicates with the Pump Maintenance team.
  • Designs, tests, implements, maintains, and repairs SCADA systems and related control equipment.
  • Acts as primary contact with SCADA and automation vendors.
  • Compiles data and produces station performance reports and asset management data.
  • Performs calibration and checks of meters, chart recorders, valves, MCCs, pumps, and instrumentation equipment.
  • Manages the asset management program for pump maintenance and generator operations.
  • Maintains records of asset performance metrics and responds to electrical system failures.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

Performs complex skilled and technical work in theinstallation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation andelectrical/electronic control systems (SCADA) at the Town’s wastewater pumpingstations and associated infrastructure. Position manages all facets of PumpMaintenance SCADA programming and assists the Pump Maintenance Field Crew Supervisor with data collection related to asset management, pump drawdowns,flow charts, weekly generator runs, monthly station reports, and other performancemetrics.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the PumpMaintenance Field Crew Supervisor.

Thisposition does not have supervisory responsibilities.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
  • Monitors SCADA daily for issues and trends; communicates issues to Pump Maintenance team in a timely manner.
  • Designs, tests, implements, maintains, and repairs SCADA system.
  • Serves as key contact with SCADA and automation vendors.
  • Compiles data and completes reports on station performance metrics.
  • Performs periodic calibration and observation checks of meters, chart recorders, electronic control valves, circuit boards, motor control centers, pumps, motors, and complicated instrumentation equipment.
  • Manages Pump Maintenance asset management program.
  • Manages weekly generator runs and troubleshoots generator issues.
  • Manages generator preventative and predictive maintenance program.
  • Manages drawdown data.
  • Maintains automatic controls at all Town pump stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all electrical and electronic equipment, including emergency generators.
  • Makes recommendations on equipment or instrumentation needed for use in upcoming budgets.
  • Provides input on technical equipment specifications relating to future projects or expansion involving pump maintenance and treatment plant design plans.
  • Maintains all records associated with asset management, instrumentation, and performance metrics.
  • Responds to failure in any of the electrical systems and makes necessary replacements or repairs.
  • Performsequipment upgrades and modifications.
  • Purchases electrical and electronic material or equipment as necessary.
  • Installs new equipment; pulls new service connections for motors, etc.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.
WHAT SETS YOU UP FOR SUCCESS

Position requires a High SchoolDiploma or GED and three (3) years of experience.

  • Possession of a NC Collections Grade 1 Certification or the ability to obtain this certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • NFPA 70E Certification or the ability to obtain this certification with six (6) months of hire.
