Hydro, Inc. seeks a skilled Machine Shop Lead to run the 2nd shift in Chicago, directing machinists, mechanics and shop staff. You’ll translate customer requirements into actionable plans, publish status updates, and manage in-process work to meet deadlines with quality.

Strong leadership and shop-floor problem solving are essential. The role emphasizes safety, coordination with the shop manager, and collaboration with engineering for complex issues.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial aftermarket environment managing machinists, mechanics and shop staff.
• Ability to plan, schedule, and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Experience in an equipment repair shop—ideally pumps or power generation.
• Basic foundation in manual machining and welding.
• Strong print-reading and mathematical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Run the 2nd shift (2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.), directing machinists, shop personnel, and technicians.
• Translate customer requirements into actionable plans and publish job status updates.
• Control and monitor work-in-process to hit dates and exceed quality/productivity goals.
• Coordinate priorities across machining, assembly, inspection, and weld shops.
• Lead safety, train on guidelines, and cover emergency weekend needs when required.
• Review drawings and ensure materials are on site before jobs start.
