Job summary

Fermilab is seeking a Pulsed Power Electrical Technician in the Power Supply Maintenance Group to provide moderately complex technical support under general supervision in an experimental or support environment.

The role involves fabricating, wiring, testing, repairing and maintaining electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment, plus documenting procedures, data, and safety records. On‑site work from Batavia, IL is required with benefits including health care and retirement plans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent technical certificate.
  • 3+ years of extensive related experience or 1+ year of DOE laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates, sets up, operates, tests, repairs, or modifies a wide variety of moderately complex electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment for laboratory projects based on drawings and schematics.
  • Assists in construction and assembly of experiment and support equipment and prepares and tests equipment for operation.
  • Writes procedures for all finished work and records data in the database or logbook.
  • Produces reports and compiles technical data and safety records using databases, spreadsheets, and other software.
  • Provides technical support and maintenance for instruments and equipment in the assigned area, troubleshooting problems and conducting repairs.
  • Performs ES&H duties, including environmental surveys, waste disposal, radiological surveys, and hazard analyses.
  • Responds to operational and emergency requirements and may work off-hour shifts or respond to emergency call-ins.
  • Procures and maintains inventories of parts, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of equipment and systems, driving quality and supporting development.
  • Mentors less experienced technicians and may act as shift supervisor on specific projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Abides by all environmental, health and safety regulations.

The expected hiring range for this position is $25.72-$31.37. Pay offered will be based on factors such as scope, responsibilities, qualifications, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable roles.

About the Role

Skills and Attributes
  • High school diploma (or equivalent technical certificate).
  • 3+ years of extensive related experience or 1+ year of DOE laboratory experience.
Applicable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and ES&H technology concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • May be required to legally operate a government vehicle.
