Job summary

UChicago Medicine Medical Group seeks a board-certified or board-eligible Pulmonologist for our Chesterton, Indiana location. You will provide direct patient care in an outpatient setting, coordinating with nursing and support staff to deliver high-quality, compassionate respiratory care.

This role emphasizes independent practice within a collaborative team, patient education, and adherence to medical standards.

Qualifications

• Medical License in Indiana.
• Board-certified or Board-eligible in a Specified Area of Medical Specialty.
• Completed a US Residency Program.

Responsibilities

• Provides and manages direct patient care including exams, evaluations, and treatment.
• Prescribes medications and treatment regimens as appropriate.
• Refers patients to subspecialists as needed.
• Directs and coordinates care with nursing and support staff.
• Participates in health promotion and education programs.
• Observes, assesses and records symptoms and progress.
• Adheres to legal and ethical standards of medical care.
• Prescribes drugs and educates patients on usage.
• Maintains knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements.
• Applies current medical principles for evaluation, diagnosed and treatment.
• Works independently and in a team; communicates effectively.

Pulmonologist Physician Roles And Responsibilities

• Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment for a specified patient population
• Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions
• Refers patients to subspecialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate
• Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required
• As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs
• Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress
• Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care
• Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage
• Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
• Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Medical License in Indiana
• Board-certified or Board-eligible in a Specified Area of Medical Specialty
• 3-5 years of experience is preferred
• Completed a US Residency Program

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
