Days (United States of America)The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist helps coordinate and implement the outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program with the primary purpose of restoring the pulmonary rehabilitation patient to an optimal level of function and alleviate the symptoms and complications of their respiratory impairment. Provides care based on the needs of the patient with consideration of their development/psychosocial needs, environmental safety, education needs, and level of understanding.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Orients new referrals to Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
Assesses the pulmonary risk factors and function and establishes individual patient goals for the pulmonary rehabilitation program
Instructs patients on the basic components of the exercise including warm-up, aerobic exercise and cool-down. Instructs patients in self-monitoring techniques such as RPE and pulse.
Oversees and documents the physical conditioning and progress of the patient. Evaluates the patient’s progress, making appropriate modifications in the exercise as needed.
Assures all patient evaluations are performed and results sent to the physician.
Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden developments in patients such as respiratory arrest
Remains up to date on current transition and outpatient support programs available to patients with respiratory disease.
Supports and meets with patients who are in the hospital and would benefit from transitional and outpatient programs offered to develop the best plan, using shared-decision making and teach back.
Identify ways of increasing referral base and ensuring timely access into PR once referral is received.
Perform all staff Respiratory Care Practitioner duties and responsibilities as described in Respiratory Care Practitioner position description.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated): RRT, BLS, ACLS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Years and Type of Experience:Five years clinical Respiratory Therapy experience with at least 2 years in a critical care setting required.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:Excellent communication skills and able to work independently with excellent organizational skills. Technical knowledge in cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases.
