Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Certified Pulmonary Technician in Towson, MD to perform diagnostic pulmonary tests and deliver patient care in a structured, policy-driven environment. Responsibilities include conducting pulmonary function, arterial blood gas analyses, and lung capacity assessments with spirometry equipment.

Qualifications

• 1 year of Pulmonary Function Tech or Respiratory Therapy (RRT) experience required.
• BLS Certification required.
• Credential: Pulmonary Function Technician or Respiratory Therapist with MD licensure required.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing diagnostic pulmonary testing.
• Perform pulmonary-function, lung-capacity, diffusion capacity, arterial blood gas tests and related analyses.
• Explain test procedures to patients and instruct on breathing methods.
• Record results and convey findings to physician for interpretation.

Job Requirements Schedule Details - Days - 7:30am - 4pm Monday - Friday

The Certified Pulmonary Technician is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients requiring diagnostic testing in an organized and systematic manner according to department policy and standards. Performs pulmonary-function, lung-capacity, diffusion capacity, and blood-and-oxygen tests to gather data for use by physician in diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disorders: Confers with patient in treatment room to explain test procedures. Explains specified methods of breathing to patient and conducts pulmonary-function tests, such as helium dilution and pulmonary mechanics (flow of air rate in lungs), arterial blood gas analyses, and lung-capacity tests, such as vital capacity and maximum breathing capacity tests, using spirometer or other equipment. Measures expired air, using various analyzers. Observes and records readings on metering devices of analysis equipment, and conveys findings of tests and analyses to physician for interpretation.
