Norwalk Hospital Association is seeking a Pulmonary Function Technician to perform tests, QA, training, and equipment maintenance in the Pulmonary Medicine department.

The role includes ABG draws support, inventory management, and ensuring PI, QA, and CAP/JCAHO proficiency testing, with daily rounds to monitor equipment and supplies.

Qualificações

  • CPFT credential and CT licensure are mandatory.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
  • RPFT credential is preferred but not mandatory.
  • RPFT is desired as per the job info.

Responsabilidades

  • Responds quickly to stats and generates accurate reports; supports interpretation across departments.
  • Ensures assignments are followed up and coverage is adequate; communicates proactively with management.
  • Maintains and sanitizes equipment and manages supplies with fiscal accountability.
  • Trains staff in PFT testing and documents competency; teaches basic PFT procedures to students.
  • Provides back-up for arterial blood gas/POC testing; reviews lab procedures and ensures quality testing.
  • Implements new procedures and evaluates equipment and policies to improve cost efficiency.
  • Enters charges for Pulmonary Lab, Pulmonary Rehab and Bronchoscopy as required.
  • Makes daily rounds, checks emergency kit numbers and dates, and reports deficiencies to QA manager.

Summary

The Pulmonary Function Technician is responsible for all tests performed, QA, CQI, training, equipment maintenance, proficiency testing, policies and procedures development. Assists pulmonary medicine department with emergency equipment inventory, ordering, cleaning and restocking supplies and performing ABG draws.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Responds as soon as possible to stats. Produces accurate well presented reports. Expedites interpretation and communicates results. Provides technical support in other sections of medicine as needed such as Cardiology and GI.
  • 2. Follows up on assignments to ensure that work is appropriately performed. Reports unusual occurrences. Provides adequate coverage. Communicates with management in a pro-active manner
  • 3. Maintains equipment in good working order. Maintains clean, safe environment Equipment supplies and facility management. Maintain adequate supplies with fiscal accountability
  • 4. Ensures that staff working in the lab or performing test are properly trained. Documents competency of staff. Teaches students the basic of PFT testing
  • 5. Provides back up for Point of Care testing Coordinator for arterial blood gas, lactate and co-oximetry testing. Reviewing lab procedures and results and ensuring quality testing is performed Provides back up for Point of Care testing Coordinator for arterial blood gas, lactate and co-oximetry testing. Maintaining proficiency testing for JCAHO and CAP and STATE
  • 6. New procedures and equipment evaluation. Implements, modifies and evaluates procedures and policies in an innovative and cost effective manner
  • 7. Enters charges for the Pulmonary Lab, Pulmonary Rehab and Bronchoscopy through Eclipsys.
  • 8. Assists the Department of Pulmonary Medicine. Makes rounds daily and records emergency kit numbers. Checks kit dates for current status and replaces as necessary. Checks the contents (PSI) of the designated emergency tanks of each patient unit and replaces as necessary. Responsible for monthly environmental rounds for the Department of Pulmonary Medicine; provides manager with report of any deficiencies / violations and inputs requisitions for any necessary repairs. Presents results of monthly ABG Critical Value Result audits to manager of Pulmonary Medicine QA. E. Order, clean, or restock supplies needed in the pulmonary department
Education Skills Experience
  • Required : Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) - credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); Licensed in State of CT as Respiratory Care Practitioner; current BLS certification, ACLS certification
  • Desired: Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) - credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC
