Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Part-time Pulmonary Function Technician at the Olathe Medical Pavilion to perform routine and specialized tests, calibrate equipment, and maintain infection control standards. You will hold an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent training, be licensed as an RT in KS or MO, and obtain NBRC credential within a year with BLS within 30 days.

Prior pulmonary lab experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent military training.
• 2+ years experience in respiratory therapy or practicum in pulmonary function testing as part of respiratory therapy curriculum.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - KS or MO upon hire
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - NBRC within 1 Year
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) - AHA within 30 Days

Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function tests (spirometry, lung volumes, DLCO, ABG draws, six-minute walk, CPET) per ATS standards.
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot pulmonary function equipment.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment per infection control standards.
• Schedule, register patients, and provide telephone support for the lab.

Performs routine and specialized pulmonary function tests, calibrates and maintains equipment to manufacturer and department standards, and cleans and disinfects equipment and surfaces to hospital and department standards.**Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions*** Perform pulmonary function tests (spirometry, lung volumes, lung diffusing capacity, arterial blood gas draws, six-minute walk test, cardiopulmonary exercise test, and other tests as specified) according to ATS and department standards.* Perform user maintenance on equipment and perform calibrations on equipment according to manufacturer and department procedures. Trouble-shoot equipment malfunction and take appropriate action to bring equipment back to operational standards.* Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes cardiopulmonary equipment according to hospital and department standards for infection control.* Performs regular administrated tasks of the pulmonary function lab including patient scheduling, registration, and telephone support.* Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.* These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
