Job description

The Memphis VA Medical Center has an opening for a Pulmonary Critical Care (PCC) Staff Physician with a dual academic appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The position reports directly to the Chief of Specialty Care and will work in conjunction with other members of the PCC and/or subspecialty team to provide evidence-based patient-centered care to Veterans. Above all, the PCC Physician is expected to provide care that exhibits patience, compassionate, appropriateness, effective for the promotion of health, prevention, and treatment of diseases.

The Medical Center consists of one main campus and ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). It’s a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The facility provides comprehensive care to over 47,000 Veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs.

Duties include but are not limited to:

The PCC Staff Physician will provide care and lead daily patient care clinical rounds, and discharge planning with members of the interdisciplinary team in ICU, Pulmonary outpatient service and Pulmonary consultation service. The PCC Staff Physician will participate in the call schedule by rotation as assigned by the Service/Section Chiefs. The PCC Physician is required to be able to demonstrate sound decision-making skills in both clinical and administrative areas, including participation in committees as a member, or as chair if the situation arises. In addition, the PCC Physician will serve as a preceptor to Residents, Medical Students, and Fellows in the PCC discipline.

Highlights of this position include:

  • Experience Based Salary $265,000 - $355,000 (Negotiable)
  • Work Schedule: Mon-Fri: 8AM-4:30PM (Periodic On-Call)
  • CME Reimbursement: Possible $1000 per year (must be Board Certified)
