Job summary

Kettelsen International Recruiting seeks a Pullet Barn and Mill Operator in New York to manage daily care of the pullet flock and operate in our on-site mills. This role involves housekeeping, equipment checks, feed management, and supporting vaccination efforts under supervision.

The ideal candidate has agriculture background, ability to lift 50 lbs, and is open to holiday schedules and possible after-hours work. Health insurance and 401k are offered after a year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Daily care of the pullet flock (0–16 weeks) in the chicken house.
• Attend to sick or injured birds and handle mortality properly.
• Maintain feed levels and ensure feed system operation.
• Assist in vaccinations and medications for birds.
• Keep housing and mill areas clean and in good working condition.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and document it.
• Operate onsite feed mill or fertilizer mill and enter formulas.
• Move feed ingredients to bins and verify bin levels.

Pullet Barn and Mill Operation

Job Description

Daily care of the pullet flock (young birds aged 0-16 weeks) of the chicken house, day-to-day housekeeping, and other duties assigned by the Supervisor. Includes but is not limited to:

• Continuously lookfor and properly attend to sick or injured birds, as well as mortality
  
• Dispose of deceased birds properly
  
• Ensure proper feed levels and feed system operation
  
• Aid in administering vaccinations and medications to birds
  
• Ensure the housing system is in proper working condition
  
• Ensure cleanliness of the house
  
• Perform other duties as assigned
  
• Ensuring operation of feed and water lines in the barn, ensuring hens have proper water and feed levels
  
• Perform and document preventative maintenance on this equipment
  
• Identify parts and supplies needed
  
• Operation and maintenance of our onsite feed mill or fertilizer mill
  
• Enter feed formulas into feed mill system, ensuring feed ingredients are mixed to the correct formula and delivered to the correct barn
  
• Ensure deliveries of feed ingredients which includes corn, soy, wheat midds, amino acids, fat, etc. into proper feed bins, including checking feed bin levels
  
• Filling micro hoppers with feed ingredients, operation of hand pallet jack to move pallets of ingredients
  
• Operation and maintenance of corn dryer tanks that dry our corn that we grow
  
• Operation of heavy machinery, assisting with the movement of equipment around the farm
  
• Maintain a clean environment in the mills
  

Requirements

• Background in agriculture, especially working with animals and livestock
  
• Mechanical aptitude a bonus
  
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
  
• Driver’s license - occasional truck driving may be required
  
• Mexican, U.S. or Canadian Citizenship
  
• Valid Passport
  
• 55 hours vacation and 40 hours sick
