Job Description

We are recruiting for a Publisher to join the Science, Technology and Medicine journals team. The Publisher will be responsible for our growing portfolio of journals, managing titles across both Open Access and Open Select models.

The successful candidate will be part of our highly motivated team, supporting Taylor & Francis wider success through the management of high-profile academic journals. Our Science, Technology and Medicine portfolio publishes at the cutting edge of academic research, working with leaders in academia, healthcare and industry.

As part of our global cross-functional publishing team this role will work closely with colleagues in our offices in Auckland, Melbourne, Oxford and Philadelphia, as well as external global partners.

What you'll be doing
  • Portfolio Management and Growth
    • Creating and delivering strategic development plans that drive quality, growth, and profitability for our Science, Technology and Medicine portfolio.
    • Overseeing and managing P&Ls under the direction of an Executive Publisher.
    • Meeting and wherever possible exceeding revenue and article volume targets.
    • Building, maintaining and sharing knowledge of market need and competitor activity to inform journal development.
    • Managing the successful transition to Taylor & Francis of acquired titles.
    • Working with external Editors, Editorial teams and internal colleagues to commission and acquire new content.
  • Relationship Management
    • Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with academic societies.
    • Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with journal editors and potential editors from relevant academic communities.
    • Developing networks within academic communities to position Taylor & Francis as a subject leader.
    • Representing Taylor & Francis Journals at conferences and editorial board meetings.
    • Championing portfolio initiatives with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Collaborating with the team to exchange ideas, share best practices, and offer support.
    • Supporting the business during negotiations, working with their manager to ensure positive outcomes for all parties.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Ensuring compliance with Taylor & Francis Journals policies and best practices.
    • Optimising publishing processes for efficiency and quality.
    • Collaborating with the Editorial Services team and across departments to ensure publication quality and timeliness.
    • Taking accountability for personal learning and skills development.
Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Proven track record of working in scholarly publishing.
  • Knowledge of publishing best practices and policies, including publication ethics, funder mandates and industry trends.
  • Strong subject matter expertise or genuine interest in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with external partners, including Editors, Editorial Boards, and Society leadership.
  • Experience with recruitment and engagement of external Academic Editors.
  • Understanding of financial reporting and analysis as relates to academic journals and prior P&L responsibility.
  • Experience gathering competitive intelligence and performing market analysis.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Annual salary ranging from $90,000 - $99,000 + bonus

  • In-Person Time: The balanced working model requires candidates to be onsite three days per week (roughly 60% of work time). Candidates should live within a commutable distance of Philadelphia, PA or Boca Raton, FL.
