Job summary

East Hanover Township is seeking a Laborer for the Department of Public Works and/or Water Department. The role covers parks, roads, and township infrastructure maintenance, with snowplowing and operation of small equipment.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, a valid NJ driver license (CDL preferred or able to obtain within 6 months), and availability for weekends and 24/7 emergency callouts, with 1-hour response to Public Works facilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid NJ Driver License; CDL or ability to obtain CDL within 6 months.
• Availability for weekend duties and 24/7 emergency callouts; respond within 1 hour to Public Works facility.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment including skid steer loaders, small tractors and backhoe.
• Inspect and maintain township parks and fields (baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, football).
• Assist Public Works and Public Utilities department as directed.
• Learn to operate other vehicles and heavy equipment as needed (heavy loader, vac truck, trucks).
• Be available 24/7 for snow plowing and cross-department support.
• Perform mowing, tree cutting and chipping as required.
• Inspect and maintain sewer systems, service lift stations, pumps and grounds.
• Inspect and maintain wells; service hydrants, valves and water lines.
• Install/replace water meters and reading equipment.
• Assist water treatment plant operations as directed.
