Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking a Signs and Pavement Marking Supervisor to lead a team responsible for installing and maintaining roadway signs, pavement markings, traffic barriers, and guardrails. The role focuses on safety, efficiency, and compliance with standards to keep Hampton’s streets well-maintained and safe for all travelers.

Ideal candidates will have an Associate degree or equivalent, intermediate/advanced Work Zone Certification, and at least five years of experience in thermoplastic

• Minimum 5 years of full-time experience in thermoplastics pavement marking and traffic signing fabrication/installation.

Responsibilities

• Lead a dedicated team responsible for installing and maintaining roadway signs, pavement markings, traffic barriers, and guardrails.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of semi-skilled staff, ensuring work is safe, efficient, and compliant with standards.
• Coordinate and monitor signage and pavement marking projects to maintain roadway safety.
• Ensure proper use of Lucity Work Order and data management for project tracking.

The City of Hampton is seeking a Signs and Pavement Marking Supervisor to lead a dedicated team responsible for installing and maintaining roadway signs, pavement markings, traffic barriers, and guardrails. In this vital role, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of semi-skilled staff while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards. Minimum Requirements

• Requires an Associate's degree, or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college, in a directly related field of study.
• Requires Intermediate or Advance Work Zone Certification
• ATSSA and/or IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings Level II Certifications Preferred or experience to obtain within 1 year of employment.
• Minimum of 5 years of full-time equivalent experience in thermos plastic pavement marking and traffic signing fabrication and installation.
• Ability to learn and utilize Lucity Work Order and Data Management System within 6 months of employment.
• Ability to perform basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Basic Excel skills and utilization of e-mail.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
• Must possess a valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) OR a CDL instructional permit and obtain the CDL within 180 days of employment.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

• May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
• The incumbent may be considered essential personnel during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
