Job summary

Hackensack City seeks a Superintendent of Public Works to lead administrative and supervisory efforts across streets, sewers, parks, and facilities. You will oversee ~10 supervisors and 80 staff, manage a $6.2M budget, and direct planning and execution of maintenance programs.

Requirements include five years of supervisory experience, CPWM certification, and a NJ driver’s license (CDL a plus). This is a full-time, benefits-eligible role with state pension enrollment upon permanent appointment.

Qualifications

• Five years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewer, water, sanitation, or other public work facilities.
• College-level engineering credits may substitute for up to two years of experience.
• Must have CPWM certification from NJDCA.
• Valid NJ driver’s license; CDL is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize installation, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities.
• Oversee repair and maintenance of streets, sewers, buildings, wastewater plants, parks, sanitation, and vehicles.
• Assign and supervise approximately 10 supervisors and 80 employees.
• Prepare a departmental budget of about $6.2 million and manage funds, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform other similar duties as needed.
