Job summary

The City of Cambridge seeks a Superintendent of Streets & Bridges to lead street, sidewalk, sewer, stormwater maintenance and public-way permitting. This role oversees 125 miles of streets, 200+ miles of sidewalks, and 244 miles of pipelines, with demanding evening hours during emergencies and snow events.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s in civil engineering or related field, 10 years in construction with 5+ years supervising projects, and strong regulatory knowledge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s preferred.
• Ten years of construction industry experience with leadership roles.
• Five+ years supervising projects and personnel.
• Five+ years in design or construction of infrastructure projects.
• Three+ years in snow operations and in public works regulatory context.

Responsibilities

• Direct, coordinate and supervise street and sewer construction and maintenance crews.
• Oversee winter weather operations and snow/ice management across city roads.
• Manage public-way permitting for construction and business use.
• Review projects for efficient use of equipment, materials, and staff.
• Coordinate with City Engineer and external contractors on projects.
• Prepare reports and budgets for Commissioner’s office.
• Respond to public inquiries and maintain safety compliance.
