Job summary

The City of Henderson's Public Works Department is seeking a Street Division worker to perform limited equipment operation and maintenance tasks on streets, curbs, and drainage systems. The role involves physical work outdoors in varying weather and on-call responsiveness.

You will assist with concrete, asphalt, and drainage repairs, operate light to medium equipment, and help maintain safe, compliant street infrastructure in the community.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, or GED, and knowledge of street maintenance work, including small-to-medium-sized equipment operation experience.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Class B North Carolina Commercial Driver's License preferred.
• May require certifications in OSHA or other safety-related items.

Responsibilities

• Assists with breaking up, removing, and constructing concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, driveways.
• Prepares asphalt materials for resurfacing and patching; uses asphalt saw to cut street; digs holes with shovel.
• Cleans and repairs storm drains, ditches, and catch basins.
• Vegetation management operations: mowing and trimming grass using weed eater and lawn mower.
• Operates construction equipment such as tampers, air compression-driven equipment, and other related light and medium equipment.
• Operates asphalt roller, jackhammer, cement mixer, power tools such as chain and concrete saws, tampers, and varied hand tools.
• Assists with sanitation operations: collection of solid waste, yard waste, bulky waste, recyclables, and loose-leaf collection.
• Cleans trash, litter, and other debris from street right-of-way.
• Assists with snow removal operations.
• Performs general preventive maintenance on equipment; cleans and washes equipment.
• Reports any unsafe conditions of equipment and other necessary repairs to supervisor.
