Public Works Superintendent
The City of Roeland Park is seeking a dependable and motivated Public Works Maintenance Worker to perform a wide variety of maintenance and construction activities throughout the City. This position supports streets, sidewalks, stormwater infrastructure, parks, landscaping, trees, facilities, equipment, snow and ice operations, and other Public Works services.
The position is intended for a well-rounded employee who is willing to work across Public Works and Parks operations and develop additional skills in equipment operation, construction, urban forestry, mechanical maintenance, and other areas based on the needs of the department.
Starting pay will be based on qualifications, experience, education, licenses, certifications, and demonstrated skills.
The City supports employee development and may provide additional hourly compensation for approved licenses and certifications obtained after hire when they meet an identified department need and are approved by the Public Works Director.
Certification pay note: Incentive pay is subject to department need and prior approval by the Public Works Director and is paid only while the applicable credential remains current and in good standing. Credentials required as a minimum qualification of an employee's classification may be reflected in the employee's base rate rather than paid as a separate incentive.
This position primarily works a 40 hour, Monday – Friday daytime schedule but must be available for snow and ice operations, severe weather, emergencies, and intermittent weekend, evening and overnight on-call as needed. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, precipitation, traffic, noise, dust, equipment, and construction conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Duties require frequent walking and standing; bending, stooping, reaching, and other physical activity associated with maintenance and construction work; occasional lifting and carrying of heavy objects weighing up to 75–100 pounds; and operation of vehicles, equipment, hand and power tools. Duties require sufficient strength, dexterity, coordination, and hand-eye coordination to safely and effectively perform assigned tasks.
Environmental Requirements:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather, heat, extreme cold, precipitation, dust, noise, traffic, and construction or maintenance conditions.
Sensory Requirements: Duties require sufficient visual perception and discrimination to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and tools and perform assigned work. Duties also require the ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, residents, and the public.
