Qualifications

Job description

The Operator position within McKenzie County Public Works is responsible for operating heavy equipment and/or trucks to maintain the roads, bridges, and rights of ways of roads throughout McKenzie County, as well as transport essential materials. This position is located in Watford City, ND and scheduled for Monday – Thursday during the Winter months and Monday-Friday in the summer months. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate heavy equipment such as dozer, grader, front-end loader, backhoe, mower, excavator, etc., to perform road maintenance, repair, construction duties, and other tasks related to roads, bridges, and rights of way.
  2. Operate dump trucks to deliver materials like dirt, gravel, and asphalt; operate tractor-trailers for equipment transport.
  3. Install and maintain ditches, drainage culverts, guardrails, fences, roadway signs, traffic control devices, and other safety-related items.
  4. Prepare roads for accessibility, including shoulder preparation, chemical spraying, gravel laying, and assist in building, repairing, and rehabilitating roads, including culvert installation and road shaping.
  5. Perform winter maintenance and snow removal activities, such as plowing and sanding, to keep roads passable. Maintain all related documentation.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of truck driving experience or 3 years of heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Valid Class A CDL driver’s license; tanker endorsement preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to report daily to Watford City, ND at scheduled times.
