Job summary

The City of Southfield Public Works Department is seeking a Public Works Worker for on-site duties, performing construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, water mains, sanitary and storm sewers. You will operate tools and equipment safely and follow safety protocols, either under supervision or independently as needed.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and CDL Class A with tanker and airbrakes endorsements within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction, maintenance, and repair tasks on public infrastructure (roads, water mains, sewers).
• Operate tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain daily activity and inventory records in the City’s asset management system OpenGov EAM.
• Follow safety protocols and work under supervision or independently as needed.
• Erect/repair guard rails, signs, and snow fences; assist with street maintenance and repairs.
