Job summary

The City of Cottonwood Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Grounds Maintenance Worker to perform maintenance on streets, sidewalks, drainage, and weed control, and to assist with parks and building maintenance as needed.

The position requires a valid Arizona driver’s license, CDL with tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain), and a high school diploma or GED. Overtime and on-call rotation are required.

Qualifications

• The equivalent of two (2) years of general streets maintenance experience.
• CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within six months after employment.
• Applicator License through the Department of Pest Management within 12 months.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license required upon hire.
• High school diploma or GED is required.

• Construct public works projects and provide emergency response as needed by public safety personnel.

Job description

Under general supervision of the Public Works Director or designee and the Public Works Superintendent, performs maintenance work on public rights-of-ways including streets, sidewalks, drainage and weed control; constructs public works projects; provides emergency response as needed by public safety personnel; assist parks and building maintenance division as required; and performs related duties as assigned.

This is a non-exempt, full-time, classified position with full benefits.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This classification involves work that requires the ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time. Bend, crouch, or stoop repeatedly or continually over time. Walk for prolonged periods, which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of adverse conditions, such as heavy nearby traffic and inclement weather with exposure to the elements, including heat, cold, rain, wind and dust. Ability to Climb ladders, perform repairs on equipment, lift heavy objects up to 60 pounds, and operate public works equipment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The equivalent of two (2) years of general streets maintenance experience. The possession of a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), with tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within six months after employment, is required.Possession of or ability to obtain an Applicator License through the Department of Pest Management within 12 months. Valid Arizona driver’s license is required upon hire. High school diploma or GED is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires employee to work overtime, holidays and weekends, and be part of an on-call rotation 24-hours per day for a week at a time, per the departmental on-call policy. Must be able to respond to call out within twenty (20) minutes.
