Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Laborer I to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled labor across city utilities, parks, streets, and public spaces. You will assist in maintenance of streets, storm drains, sewer lines, water mains, landscaping, and support crews with tools and equipment.

This entry-level position offers an starting wage of $21.50 per hour. Work is outdoors with safety rules to follow; training is provided to operate hand and power tools and diverse machinery within city

Qualifications

• General mechanical knowledge and aptitude.
• Ability to learn to use hand/power tools and other equipment.
• Ability to perform manual labor.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.

Responsibilities

• Performs strenuous labor to maintain facilities, utilities, and public spaces.
• Sets forms, pours concrete, lays asphalt, or crack seals as needed.
• Operates dump trucks, tractors, and other equipment to transport tools and materials.
• Flags traffic and sets safety devices to protect crew and public.
• Digs ditches and trenches and assists in drainage, landscaping, and street maintenance.
