Job summary

North Slope Borough is seeking a versatile Public Works Laborer to support maintenance of facilities, grounds, roads, and utilities. The role includes cemetery support and assisting with infrastructure projects, with potential shift variations including evenings or weekends based on needs.

The position requires physical stamina, a valid Alaska driver's license, and the ability to obtain multiple certifications within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• Valid Alaska Driver's License per North Slope Borough requirements.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to obtain IS certifications 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 2 years of hire.
• Ability to obtain CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid within 6 months.
• Ability to obtain RCRA training within 6 months.
• HAZWOPER certification within 6 months.
• Small Quantity Handler training within probationary period.
• SPCC training within 6 months.
• Immunizations: diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis A/B as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor to support Public Works operations.
• Clean and maintain work areas, yards, equipment, and vehicles.
• Load, unload, move, and transport tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and infrastructure.
• Assist with road, utility grounds, and facility maintenance.
• Operate hand and power tools and Public Works equipment.
• Perform snow removal and debris cleanup as needed.
• Prepare basic work records and logs.
• Support emergency response and after-hours operations.
• Assist families with grave digging as requested.
