Job summary

The City of Davenport is hiring for a laborer to perform manual tasks that are physically demanding. Starting pay is $20.70 per hour, increasing to $21.02 after six months, with CDL training provided upon hire. The role includes snow plowing, flood response, and operating various equipment while contributing to public works and safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement within three months of hire.
• Must reside in Iowa or Illinois within two years of hire.
• Must pass a physical examination and background check; subject to FMCSA random drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Shovel dirt, sand, gravel and asphalt in various jobs and under various environmental conditions.
• Assist in setting forms and pouring concrete; dig, shore and fill excavation sites as assigned.
• Lifts and carries heavy materials; clears trash and debris; cleans work sites.
• Assists in clearing sewer lines and catch basins; clears walks and streets of snow, ice and debris.
• Operates a variety of equipment regularly and assists in general maintenance of public facilities and equipment.
• Reports to work on emergency conditions, including 12-hour shifts for snow plowing or flood work.
