Job summary

Volunteer Centre County is seeking a Public Works Laborer in State College, PA to support tree and landscape maintenance, street and sewer repairs, and basic carpentry tasks.

Qualifications include a High School diploma with some tree care experience, the ability to obtain Confined Space Certification and Work Zone Traffic Control Training within 12 months, and a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement (air brake restrictions not allowed) within 4 months, plus a PA driver's license.

• Must obtain a Class B commercial driver's license (with tanker endorsement and without air brake restriction) within four (4) months of employment.
• Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• The Public Works Laborer position includes maintenance of trees and public landscapes, repair and maintenance of streets and sewers, maintenance of public property, and minor carpentry and construction tasks.
• The Public Works Laborer is responsible for the collection of refuse and bulk items and for the safe operation of vehicles and equipment used in all tasks.
• The Public Works Laborer will report to the Arborist, Operations Manager, or Refuse and Organics Manager and will receive daily work assignments from a Public Works Foreman.

The Public Works Laborer position includes a variety of semi-skilled and skilled-level work in the maintenance of trees and public landscapes, repair and maintenance of streets and sewers, maintenance of public property, and minor carpentry and construction tasks.

The Public Works Laborer position is also responsible for the collection of refuse and bulk items and for the safe operation of vehicles and equipment used in all tasks.

The Public Works Laborer will report to the Arborist, Operations Manager, or Refuse and Organics Manager and will receive daily work assignments and responsibilities from a Public Works Foreman.
