City of West Haven is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform high‑level highway and park maintenance using dump trucks and heavy machinery. The role emphasizes safe operation and adherence to procedures on roads, drainage, and related facilities.

You may specialize as street sweeper or vac‑all operator; duties include snow plowing, applying sand and salt, basic maintenance checks, and leading junior staff when required. A valid CDL with endorsements is required.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent plus 4 years experience in manual labor, truck driving, and heavy construction equipment operation.
• Must have a valid CDL, Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements.
• Knowledge of drainage, roadway construction and safety procedures required.

Responsabilités

• Operate a dump truck to plow snow and move construction material.
• Operate front-end loaders, bulldozers, graders, and related equipment.
• May be assigned primarily as street sweeper operator or vac-all operator.
• Plows snow and applies sand and salt on city roads.
• Removes snow from sidewalks, parking lots and related areas.
• Lead when working with employees of lower classifications.
• Perform basic inspection and preventive maintenance prior to use.
