Job summary

The Town of West Springfield is seeking a qualified Motor Equipment Operator to join its Public Works team. This role involves operating heavy construction and maintenance equipment, performing routine inspections, and supporting water, sewer, and other utility operations.

Applicants should have a high school diploma and 2–4 years of related experience, plus a valid CDL Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–4 years of experience at a technical school or on-the-job training preferred.
• Experience operating heavy automotive equipment or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy and unique construction or maintenance equipment, including high-capacity dump trucks.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies as directed and assist in emergency response activities.
• Install and repair water, sewer, and related public works utilities using approved methods.
• Operate equipment for snow removal as needed.
• Read and follow specifications from engineering blueprints and diagrams for water/sewer systems.
• Locate, operate, repair, and maintain underground utilities and controls.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment (air pressures, fluids, lubrication, cleaning).
• Complete daily vehicle condition inspections and report as required.
