Job summary

Town of Middletown, RI is seeking a Labor Equipment Operator I in Middletown to operate a variety of small highway and public works equipment. The role supports construction, maintenance and repair of Town facilities and infrastructure.

The employee may also drive trucks, cut grass, clean storm drains and perform manual labor. Requires 2 years in public works, valid driver's license and ability to obtain RI CDL within one year.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and techniques used in construction.
• Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine operation.
• Awareness of safety and security standards for the position.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor in varying weather.
• Ability to operate listed tools and equipment.
• Ability to work safely and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist in trenching for drainage or sewer lines.
• Assist in loading/unloading bulk materials and equipment.
• Support highway, beach, sewer, and public works projects as needed.
• Operate tractor-mower and drive various trucks for loading/hauling/unloading.
• Assist in snow plowing and road sanding when required.
• Maintain and inspect equipment and tools before/after use.
• Report defects and participate in minor repairs as directed.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
