Equipment Operator II pay range for this posting is $41,523 - $74,742
Equipment Operator III pay range for this posting is $44,052 - $79,294
Equipment Operator IV pay range for this posting is $46,035 - $82,862

AS AN EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IN DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE YOU WILL:

Operate one or more types of specialized, complex heavy-duty motorized and automotive equipment and one or more types of motorized and automotive equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s public works infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements for Equipment Operator II:

  • High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
  • Some experience in equipment operation or a closely related experience (1 year of experience).
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or obtain CDL Class B within 180 days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.

Minimum Requirements for Equipment Operator III:

  • High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
  • Considerable experience in equipment operation or a closely related experience (3 years of experience).
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or obtain CDL Class A within 180 days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.

Minimum Requirements for Equipment Operator IV:

  • High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
  • Significant experience in equipment operation or a closely related experience (5 years of experience).
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or obtain CDL Class A within 180 days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.

Additional Requirement for all Equipment Operators:

  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
