Job summary

The City of Susanville seeks a Public Works Director to lead the Public Works Department, overseeing divisions including Streets, Water, Natural Gas, Parks and Facilities, Building and Planning, and Administrative and Engineering.

Under the City Manager, the Director will coordinate with boards such as the Susanville Municipal Airport Commission and Regional Water Management Group, prepare budgets, plans, and supervise staff.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in public works administration, including two (2) years of significant administrative managerial experience working in a public agency.
• Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business, engineering and/or related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop, plan, and implement department goals and policies.
• Oversee department budget and staffing projections.
• Coordinate activities with other departments and agencies.
• Provide staff support to City Manager and prepare reports.
• Manage contracts and consultant performance.
• Represent the department to outside groups and committees.
• Prepare strategic and capital plans for the department.
