Job summary

City of Kannapolis is seeking a Construction Maintenance Worker to perform semiskilled construction, maintenance, and repair tasks on public facilities such as streets, water, and sewer lines. You will operate a range of equipment under supervision, assist with pipe installation, and support erosion control and landscaping efforts.

The role requires the ability to perform manual labor in varying weather, lift heavy items, and follow instructions.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of safe use, operation and maintenance of assigned equipment.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often in adverse weather.
• Ability to lift heavy items.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Perform semiskilled tasks in construction, maintenance, and repair of public facilities such as streets and utilities.
• Operate equipment (dump trucks, mowers, chain saws, concrete mixers, etc.).
• Load, haul, and assist in installing and repairing pipes, meters, and catch basins.
• Spread asphalt for pothole repairs and utility cuts; assist with right-of-way maintenance and landscaping.
• Assist with water/wastewater line work and related facilities; maintain vehicle and equipment.
• Participate in traffic control and work-zone setup; perform related duties as required.
