Job summary

Upper Darby Township is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Public Works to help lead one of the Township's essential departments.

Working closely with the Director of Public Works, this position assists in planning, organizing, and directing department operations that support the Township's infrastructure and essential services, including streets, sanitation, stormwater systems, fleet operations, facilities, and parks maintenance.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in municipal infrastructure, water distribution and treatment, sanitation, recycling, and/or streets maintenance.
• At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
• Thorough knowledge of roadway maintenance and repair, stormwater, facility maintenance, NPDES reporting and compliance, and project management.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily oversight of supervisory staff.
• Assist with department budgeting and purchasing activities.
• Coordinate capital improvement projects.
• Conduct field inspections and review technical plans.
• Develop and implement department policies and procedures.
• Serve as liaison with residents, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and other departments.
