Starting Salary: $56,000 annually for preliminary credential, $59,000.00 for clear credential, relative to experience. Full-time (Possible additional salary allotment for Waldorf Teacher Training or SPED position) for 10-month schedule

Qualifications: A current California teaching credential or a combination of credential, college credits, and experience that qualifies teaching both Kindergarteners and Transitional Kindergarteners. A background in education inspired by Waldorf is desired or a willingness to pursue Waldorf Teacher training. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Education Program and Environment

  1. Present a curriculum inspired by Waldorf education in a sequence and intensity that fits the developmental stage of the child.
  2. Create lessons and activities throughout the curriculum that consider the temperaments/personalities, develop social skills, and explore artistic expression and ensure that students are engaged in their lessons.
  3. Teach to grade level standards adopted by Golden Valley Charter Schools (GVCS)
  4. Maintain an orderly class regarding student behavior; both in the classroom and on school grounds.
  5. Create a clean, orderly, and beautiful classroom.
  6. Arrive on campus fifteen minutes prior to the start of school and remain on campus until fifteen minutes after school is dismissed or until all necessary duties are completed.
  7. Provide yard or classroom supervision during lunch recess as needed.
  8. Comply with all Special Education Regulations, the GVCS Charter and policies adopted by the GVCS Board of Trustees
  9. Work with Student Success Team to assess children’s needs and formulate a plan to address any special needs.
  10. Provide class with field trips that are age-appropriate and aligned with GVCS grade level expectations.

Professional Development

  1. Work cooperatively with a Waldorf Mentor, if needed
  2. Create a Professional Development Plan at the beginning of each school year
  3. Engage in training to assure continual improvement of successful strategies used in teaching at GVCS.
  4. Agree to participation in Beginning Teacher training (BTSA) if appropriate.

Assessment and Record Keeping

  1. Provide a written evaluation of each child at the end of the year.
  2. Conduct state mandated tests and evaluation procedures as required.
  3. Keep appropriate records of each student’s progress in basic skills.
  4. Monitor and report student attendance.

Parent Relations

  1. Offer a minimum of three Parent Meetings throughout the year.
  2. Work to achieve a mutual understanding, respect and harmony between home and school.
  3. Provide parents with a Daily Schedule and Block Rotation during the first month of school.
  4. Hold individual conferences with the parents of each child.
  5. Be available for phone conversations or additional conferences as needed.
  6. Provide class notes or newsletters to families to keep parents informed of activities, events, and class happenings.
  7. Participate on various committees as required for teacher representation (e.g., Board of Trustees, Parent Circle, Task Forces, and Committees including, but not limited to: Administrative, Budget, Hiring, Student Success Team)
  8. Attend weekly Faculty meetings.
  9. Perform adjunct duties as assigned.

Collegial Atmosphere

  1. Work cooperatively with all other faculty, assistants, administrator, and staff
  2. Work to create a cohesive educational program for the school.
  3. Participate in weekly faculty meetings.
  4. Share knowledge and experience with other faculty members for the betterment of all.

Outreach/Community Relations

  1. Participate in community and school-wide events, including, but not limited to, three festivals yearly, graduation ceremony, and dances (7th and 8th grade only)
  2. Meet with prospective parents and students.
  3. Provide prospective students with the opportunity to visit the class.
