Job summary

The Public Utility Commission of Texas is seeking Attorneys I–III to provide legal support in contested electric, telecommunications, and water utility cases. You will represent the Commission before SOAH, perform legal research, draft documents, and coordinate expert witnesses.

Minimum qualifications include a JD or LLB and Texas license, with progression potential from a Law Clerk role if bar eligibility is met.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school with LLB or JD degree and licensed with the State Bar of Texas.
• Texas Bar eligibility; July 2026 bar exam candidates may apply and will be hired as Law Clerk at salary, then promoted to Attorney I after licensure.
• Two years of legal work experience for Attorney II; three years for Attorney III; preferred qualifications include internship in regulatory utilities and administrative law or litigation experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal support in contested cases involving electric, telecommunications, and water utilities.
• Represent the Commission before the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH).
• Conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and coordinate expert witness preparation.
