Public Tax Staff Accountant

Location: Chattanooga, TN

We are seeking a Tax Staff Accountant who will work closely with clients to understand their businesses and support tax compliance, projections, and issue resolution. This role offers hands‑on experience, continuous learning, and opportunities to build strong client relationships while developing technical tax expertise.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrate a commitment to high‑quality client service and personal attention.
• Assist with routine federal and state agency inquiries.
• Maintain frequent client contact to provide updates and answer general questions.
• Request necessary information from clients and supervisors to prepare tax filings.
• Identify potential tax issues and discuss them with team members.
• Prepare tax projections and related analysis.
• Prepare tax returns for review and address all review notes thoroughly.
• Review tax law developments to determine applicability to clients.
• Draft federal, state, and local correspondence to tax authorities.
• Participate in internal training as needed.
• Actively prepare for CPA exam completion.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Completion of 150 credit hours for CPA licensure is highly desirable.
• Understanding of basic accounting procedures and GAAP.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to multitask.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
