Job summary

Navajo Preparatory School seeks a dedicated coach to lead students in public speaking and debate, designing engaging practice sessions and guiding teams for local, regional and national tournaments.

The role emphasizes research methods, argumentation, delivery and mentorship, with strong communication skills and Navajo language ability preferred. This position is on-site at the Farmington area campus and involves oversight of program expenses and logistics.

Qualifications

• Prefer certified teacher; staff preferred.
• Experience and/or education in the athletic activity supervised.
• Willing to devote a large amount of time to students and the sport involved.
• Strong emphasis on human relations and communication skills (oral, nonverbal, written).
• Ability to speak Navajo is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement engaging practice sessions that emphasize critical thinking, public speaking, research and persuasive writing.
• Teach students formats of debate (Policy, Public Forum) and speech events.
• Provide instruction in research methods, argument structure and evidence analysis.
• Coach students individually and in groups for local, regional and national tournaments.
• Travel with the team to tournaments as required, providing supervision and logistical support.
