• Schedule: May vary, but will include a combination of day, evening and/or weekend hours (including occasional Sundays)

A successful candidate will…
· Have a Master's degree in Library Science.
· Have Indiana State Librarian Certificate 3 – Professional Assistant, or be qualified to receive it soon after hire.
· Have juvenile Library reference and/or customer service experience (preferred).
· Have the ability to work nights and weekends as scheduled.
What does the job look like?
Provides in-depth research and recommendation of resources and materials to patrons such as recommending print or electronic sources or titles, placing material requests, searching shelves, and referring to other libraries or community sources. Assists patrons with special collections, resources and services found specifically at Central Library, if applicable.
Makes appropriate recommendations and provides instruction and technical assistance to patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and other equipment, including general internet help and accessing library resources through computers and mobile devices. Assists with printing.
Evaluates materials for condition and usefulness and discards accordingly; recommends new materials; creates and organizes displays to promote library resources.
Develops plans for services and programs for the community served; schedules, delivers, evaluates with feedback of participants. Implements programming including computer instruction.
Initiates partnerships that lead to the development, implementation, and administration of system-wide community outreach programs and events.
Promotes library use and services through displays, presentations, participation in community events, communications and publicity distribution.
Assists patrons with performing online job searches, writing resumes and cover letters and locating online legal forms, tax documents, and government websites, for immigration, unemployment and SNAP.
Assists in collection and analysis of data on library use, services, trends and community resources.
Informs patrons of library policies and procedures, observes patron activity, and addresses violations of the library behavior policy.
Stays current on print and electronic resources offered by the library and popular computer applications.
Processes circulation and/or collection reports.
Creates lists, provides reader’s advisory and posts comments in Bibliocommons.
Upon request, completes interlibrary loan functions.
Provides social services resources and referrals to patrons in need (homeless, mentally ill, etc.)
Provides a variety of clerical and/or technical tasks in support of assigned function, including checking in and out material in a timely manner, processing holds and reserves, assisting patrons with library card applications and accepting payment for library fines and services.
Provides training and guidance to staff on appropriate resources and their use, as needed.
