Job summary

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a motivated and collaborative attorney to join our growing legal team. This position provides legal counsel, interpretation of statutes, and advisory services to correctional facilities, facility leadership, and Department staff.

The role requires strong analytical skills and a commitment to public service. Ideal candidates hold an Illinois license to practice law and have at least three years of professional experience.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current Illinois law license.
• Minimum three years professional experience in the practice of law.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct legal counsel and advisory services to correctional facilities and Department staff.
• Interpret complex acts and statutes affecting the Department of Corrections.
• Coordinate legal matters with the Office of the Attorney General filed in state and federal court.
• Advise Department personnel, wardens, facility administrators, and correctional staff concerning facility operations, compliance obligations, and legal risk.
• Conduct complex technical research for administrative officials of the Department.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
