Job summary

The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is seeking an Assistant Counsel within the Office of Counsel to provide legal guidance across divisions, oversee litigation, and conduct administrative hearings. This role also acts as the primary liaison with the Office of the Attorney General on complex matters.

Responsibilities include advising on contracts, procurement, visitation appeals, and issues raised by incarcerated individuals’ legal representatives.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the New York State Bar.
• Two years of experience in the practice of law after admission to the Bar.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to divisions within the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
• Oversee litigation against the Department and manage administrative hearings.
• Serve as liaison between the Department and the Office of the Attorney General.
• Advise staff on contracts, procurement, visitation appeals, and issues raised by incarcerated individuals’ legal representatives.
