Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is hiring a Research Analytics Engineer to build scalable data pipelines and support embedded researchers through the DATA Lab. This grant-funded role focuses on infrastructure, ETL design, and collaboration with Penn Prosecution Lab partners to deliver accurate, timely data for policy and practice insights.

The role reports to the Supervising Data Engineer and requires strong Python, SQL, and R skills, plus experience with AWS, Postgres, and Airflow.

Qualifications

• Background in computer science or equivalent experience (3+ years) in research settings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues; Python proficiency.
• Proficiency in SQL
• Proficiency in R, statistics, and research methods; familiarity with experimental methods
• Experience building ETL pipelines
• Ability to collaborate with Infrastructure, Penn Research, Analytics teams
• Git/GitHub for version control
• Familiarity with AWS
• Experience with Linux; Airflow is a plus

Responsabilités

• Serve as primary contact for database-related questions from Penn team (availability of a field/variable, access, troubleshooting).
• Design, build, and maintain automated, scalable, test-driven data pipelines.
• Build research-ready versions of datasets and documentation for Penn team and external researchers.
• Ensure quality, efficiency, and accuracy of data.
• Troubleshoot and fix errors and outages as they occur.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, daily standup, retro).
• Support DATA Lab Infra team in identifying and integrating new data sources.
• Manage version control for Penn research code and support Penn team researchers in best practices.
• Support DATA Lab reviews of Penn Fellows’ work to ensure proper interpretation of data, including code review for replication packets.
