Job summary

Office of the Chief Judge/ Adult Probation Department-Cook County is seeking a Staff Attorney in Chicago, IL. The role requires robust legal skills to advise management on labor and employment laws and negotiated agreements.

You will engage in research, policy development, and coordination with outside counsel about complex employment matters. The position reports to the Chief Probation Officer and includes collaboration with the OCJ HR.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor degree.
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Illinois.
• Minimum of 5 years of legal experience in negotiation, litigation, arbitration, and other adversarial proceedings in public sector labor matters.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience applying federal statutes impacting employees (FMLA, ADA, Titles I & II, FLSA, Title VII) preferred.
• Experience administering public sector collective bargaining agreements preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise management in all departments under APD with respect to compliance with labor and employment laws and CBAs.
• Conduct legal research on labor and employment law issues.
• Represent management as counsel in administrative hearings for APD departments.
• Develop, review and update employment policies and procedures.
• Liaise with outside counsel on matters involving APD and employees.
