Chatham County is seeking an accomplished Internal Audit Director to lead efforts that strengthen accountability and safeguard public resources across County operations. This role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, uncovering opportunities for improvement and ensuring that policies, procedures, and internal controls support the County’s mission.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, investigative expertise, and a commitment to public service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
• Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in internal auditing, governmental accounting, or special investigations.
• Must possess and maintain CPA or CIA certification.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
• Oversees investigations of alleged wrongdoing and conducts audits.
• Gathers and evaluates evidence, reviews data and audit trails, and analyzes transactions.
• Prepares audit reports and submits findings to the County Manager; Testifies in Court as needed.
• Manages department budget and allocates resources; interfaces with senior management.
• Develops and updates internal controls and assessment of control environment.
• Interprets compliance with applicable laws, rules, and procedures; ensures corrective actions.
• Uses electronic data analysis and specialized software for data extraction and analysis.
