Job summary

The position requires a Bachelor's in accounting and strong Excel skills, with experience in general ledger systems, budget entries, reconciliations and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with Intermediate Accounting coursework
• Three years of progressively responsible accounting experience (or two years in public accounting)
• Experience with a sophisticated financial management system and inter-relationships of data
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including advanced functions) and associated Office tools
• Experience with enterprise-wide automated accounting systems and general ledger maintenance
• Knowledge of governmental or fund accounting preferred
• Supervisory experience on a technical level is desirable
• Accurate and proficient keyboarding and 10-key by touch
• Valid driver’s license and insurance requirements may apply

Responsibilities

• Review procurements, budget transfers, and appropriating ordinances for correct account distribution
• Perform general ledger file maintenance for assigned funds
• Prepare budget and journal entries for assigned funds
• Respond to inquiries from Borough employees for assigned funds
• Prepare reconciliations, reports, spreadsheets and schedules; perform special accounting projects
• Analyze accounts in assigned funds and perform analyses as needed
• Reconcile and distribute transaction and ledger reports
• Assist with year-end accounting tasks, audits and financial statements
• Troubleshoot and test periodic software updates; train/supervise staff in the financial management system
• Assist with records retention program for the General Ledger
