Job summary

City of St Joseph seeks a seasoned finance leader to direct the City’s financial management, treasury, and property assessing functions under the City Manager’s guidance.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s in accounting or finance (master’s/CPA preferred) with 6–8 years in government finance and supervisory experience. Strong communication, leadership, and multi-project oversight are essential to drive citywide financial success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. A master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
• Six to eight years of experience in government finance and treasury functions, including supervisory responsibility.
• Interpersonal skills to manage a diverse staff and collaborate at all City levels.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to groups including City Council.
• Leadership skills to formulate plans, provide strategic direction, and guide the department.
• Mental ability to handle deadlines and multiple projects with attention to detail.
• Physical ability to sit for extended periods and lift up to 20 pounds when needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the overall financial management of the City under the City Manager.
• Supervise the Finance Office daily operations and manage Treasury and Property Assessing functions.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal statutes in finance operations.
• Develop and present financial plans and reports to City leadership and stakeholders.
• Lead strategic direction for the department and guide operational success.
• Manage workloads and project timelines while maintaining quality and accuracy.
• Coordinate with other departments and staff to support municipal financial goals.
