Job summary

The Loudoun County, Virginia Department of Building and Development is seeking an electrical inspector to conduct field inspections of commercial and residential structures for compliance with the Virginia USBC, NEC codes, and local ordinances.

The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a working knowledge of applicable codes. Position includes ongoing training and certification requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical coursework in building preferred).
• Four (4) years of construction related work experience.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct all assigned field inspections of commercial/residential structures for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and NEC.
• Maintain a record of each inspection result in the County database system.
• Maintain strict compliance with inspection time limitations established by the Building Official to meet the intent of the USBC.
• Maintain a high level of problem-solving skills.
• Manage/participate in special projects, as assigned.
• Attend all mandatory training as required by title 36 of the Code of Virginia and ensure required electrical inspector certifications are current.
• Proactively provide technical information to owners, contractors, architects, and the public in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
• Respond to all phone inquiries the same day received.
• Communicate professionally with other staff members and customers.
