Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission seeks an exceptional Chief Information Security Officer to lead the agency's cybersecurity program in Austin. The CISO will shape enterprise security strategy, govern risk, and oversee incident response, architecture, and compliance across a large public-sector technology environment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, or related field.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in cybersecurity, information security, or technology leadership.
• Experience with cybersecurity frameworks, regulatory compliance, audits, and risk management in a large organization.
• Experience leading cybersecurity, information security, and technology risk teams in a complex environment.
• Prior work in Health and Human Services agencies or public-sector is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops strategic cybersecurity goals aligned with the agency plan and communicates risk to executives.
• Directs enterprise cybersecurity, risk management, and resilience activities to protect critical systems.
• Oversees policies, procedures, and guidelines governing CISO operations and information security.
• Leads staff development, coaching, and succession planning within the cybersecurity organization.
