Job summary

Spotsylvania County seeks a professional attorney to provide legal representation focused on FOIA matters under the County FOIA Policy and related duties. The attorney will draft ordinances, opinions, and review contracts while advising County departments, boards, and commissions.

The role requires initiative, independent judgment, and ability to interact with public officials and the general public in a professional manner. Reports to the County Attorney and supports county legal needs.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate Degree required.
• License to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
• Excellent legal research and writing abilities essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepares cases for trial, interviews witnesses, negotiates with attorneys, and conducts legal investigations.
• Presents cases in court and makes motions and recommendations to the court.
• Provides legal advice and counsel to the Board of Supervisors, public officials, and County agencies.
