Job summary

Hanover County is seeking an Assistant County Attorney I/II/III to support the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorneys in delivering a wide range of legal services to the Board of Supervisors, School Board, constitutional officers, and county departments.

Responsibilities include drafting contracts, ordinances, and resolutions; litigating before administrative bodies and courts; and providing legal advice.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the Virginia State Bar or eligibility within two months.
• Strong academic background and relevant internship or clerkship experience.
• Experience drafting and reviewing contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents.

Responsibilities

• Perform legal research and provide oral and written opinions to County authorities.
• Draft and review contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents for county operations.
• Prepare reports and presentations as needed.
• Handle court proceedings and appeals under supervision of senior attorneys.
