Job summary

The City of Kent, WA Finance Department is seeking an Accounting Manager with strong leadership to oversee payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, reporting, and cash and investments.

This is a full-time, benefited position focused on managing operations, ensuring GAAP, GASB, and BARS compliance, and guiding a team of accounting staff. CPA or CGFM strongly preferred; interviews may be scheduled in March.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field.
• Five years of professional governmental accounting experience with at least three years in a lead/supervisory role.
• CPA or CGFM strongly preferred.
• Strong leadership and integrity; able to manage payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct daily accounting operations including payroll, A/P, GL, reporting, and cash flow.
• Develop performance metrics and supervise staff; hire, train, and evaluate.
• Ensure GAAP, GASB, and BARS compliance; maintain internal controls.
• Oversee year-end closing, ACFR preparation, and financial statements.
